Malabo Entry Requirements
Visa, immigration, and customs information
Visa Requirements
Entry permissions vary by nationality. Find your category below.
Equatorial Guinea requires visas for nearly all foreign visitors. The process has modernized with an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system for many nationalities, but some must still obtain a traditional visa from an embassy.
Only citizens of a very limited number of neighboring African countries may enter without a visa.
Visa-free entry is extremely limited and typically applies only to border residents with special permits. All other travelers require authorization.
Citizens of many countries can apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorization, which is a pre-approved entry document.
Cost: Approximately 100-150 USD, depending on nationality and processing speed.
The ETA is mandatory for eligible nationalities. You must print the approval and present it to immigration. An ETA is not a visa stamp but grants permission to receive a visa on arrival at the port of entry.
Nationalities not eligible for the ETA must apply for a traditional visa at an Equatorial Guinean embassy or consulate.
Embassies are few globally, so planning far in advance is essential. Some travelers may need to apply through an embassy in a neighboring country.
Arrival Process
Upon arrival at Malabo International Airport (SSG), expect a thorough inspection by immigration officials. The process can be slow, so patience is advised.

Special Situations
Additional requirements for specific circumstances.
Minors (under 18) must have their own passport and visa/ETA. Immigration officials may request a notarized letter of consent from non-accompanying parents, if the child has a different surname. Birth certificates may also be requested.
Pets require an import permit obtained in advance from the Ministry of Agriculture. A valid veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel and proof of current rabies vaccination are mandatory. Quarantine may be required.
To stay longer than your visa allows, you must apply for an extension at the Dirección General de Migración (General Directorate of Immigration) in Malabo well before your current visa expires. This process can be complex and is not guaranteed. Overstaying results in heavy fines and potential detention.
