Malabo Entry Requirements

Malabo Entry Requirements

Visa, immigration, and customs information

Important Notice Entry requirements can change at any time. Always verify current requirements with official government sources before traveling.
Malabo International Airport greets you with thick, salty air that carries the crash of Atlantic surf against Bioko Island's black-lava coast. Inside the terminal, clipped Spanish syllables bounce off tiled walls while passports flip open like impatient fans. Officers in deep-green uniforms work beneath lazy ceiling fans, each stamp landing with a decisive thud you feel through the counter. Have your papers ready: passport, return ticket, lodging proof, phones are fine, but a printed set rescues you when the laptop screens flicker. Plan on 45, 60 minutes gate-to-curb; if two flights land together, the lone baggage belt clatters under a tide of woven baskets tied in neon twine.

Visa Requirements

Entry permissions vary by nationality. Find your category below.

Visa-Free Entry
90 days within any 180-day period

Only Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Gabon, and Nigeria allow their citizens to enter Malabo visa-free for short visits.

Includes
Cameroon Central African Republic Chad Congo (Brazzaville) Gabon Nigeria

That freedom applies by air alone. Crossing the land border from any of those neighbors still demands a visa.

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA/eVisa)
N/A

Malabo offers neither e-visa nor ETA at present. Every authorization must be arranged ahead at an embassy.

Includes
None
How to Apply: Not applicable
Cost: None available

A rumored pilot program has not launched. Ignore any website promising online approval.

Visa Required
The standard grant is a 30-day single-entry stamp; a 90-day multiple-entry visa is available if you can justify the need.

All other passports, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, EU Schengen states, Australia, Japan, South Africa, Brazil, India, China included, must secure a visa before the wheels touch down.

How to Apply: Submit your file at the nearest Equatorial Guinea embassy or consulate. The Brussels mission covers most of Europe, Washington DC handles North America. Once the dossier is complete, expect 5, 10 working days for the answer.

You'll need an invitation letter or hotel voucher plus proof of funds; a yellow-fever certificate is non-negotiable for approval.

Arrival Process

Disembarkation in Malabo runs like clockwork if you bring patience and exact paperwork. The line inches forward beneath humming fluorescents that smell faintly of jet fuel.

1
Health Desk
Officials check your yellow-fever card and may sweep your forehead with a handheld infrared gun. Sanitizer dispensers leave a sharp alcohol sting on your palms.
2
Immigration Control
Hand over passport, visa, return ticket, and hotel confirmation. The officer presses your fingers to a glass scanner and snaps your photo against a pale-blue wall.
3
Baggage Claim
The single belt rumbles. Luggage carts squeak across polished tile. Porters in navy shirts weave through the crowd calling 'maleta, maleta' above the mechanical clatter.
4
Customs Channel
Pick the green lane if you have nothing to declare, red if you do. Random white-glove bag checks keep everyone honest.
