Malabo Airport Transfer Guide (2026) - All Options & Tips
Secure your Malabo Airport transfer with key local practices, helpful tips, and essential warnings to avoid common scams.
We have not yet verified how travellers currently reach Malabo from the airport serving it, so we are not publishing routes, operators or fares we cannot stand behind. For what is running on the day you travel, the arrivals information published by your arrival airport is the reliable source, and your accommodation will usually know what works best for the hour you land.
Helpful Tips
Grab a seat on Malabo's shared minibus taxis. Locals call them 'bush taxis'. They leave from the central market area. Cheap city travel. Fares stay low. Crowded? Yes. Authentic? Absolutely.
Download the local taxi apps before you land. Ride-hailing beats street hailing in Malabo. Drivers respond faster. Prices stay fixed. No haggling.
The airport shuttle bus runs from Malabo International Airport to the city center. Look for the clearly marked white buses outside arrivals. Every twenty minutes. Fixed fare.
Carry cash in Central African CFA francs. Most local transport options including taxis and minibuses don't accept cards. ATMs work. Change is scarce. Plan ahead.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unofficial porters at Malabo International Airport will grab bags from the carousel and demand inflated fees for carrying them 50 meters to the taxi stand. Firmly decline and keep your luggage cart, or agree on a small fixed amount before they touch your bags.
Taxi touts inside the arrivals area quote fares in euros or dollars at 3-4 times the going rate and claim local currency is not accepted. Walk past them to the official taxi rank outside where fares are negotiated in Central African francs and are typically much lower.
Currency-exchange booths just past customs advertise 'no commission' yet use a deliberately poor rate that is never posted. Compare the offered rate against the official daily rate on your phone and walk 100 meters to the airport bank counter for a fairer deal.
